About Poetry Through the Ages

Poetry Through the Ages is a group that discusses famous poetry and poets, writes different styles of poetry, and publishes their work on-line. As a student, poet I greatly encourage all to venture deeper into their possible talents. i did not know of my own success as a poet until quite recently, and maybe you are the same way. Whether you have years, months, or days of experience does not matter. What matters is the common interest we all have.

Poetry As a Form of Art

There are many kinds of art. Photography, sculpture, and paintings are all types of art. As incredible as it may seem, poetry is also a form of art. It appeals to your five senses using concrete and abstract vocabulary. So, not only can Michaelangelo and van Gogh be considered artists, but also Shel Silverstein and Edgar Allen Poe.

Poetry Through the Ages

Poetry was first recognized as prose written in meter or verse. The oldest surviving poem is The Epic of Gilagamesh which was written in cuneiform writing on clay tablets. Tatakiewicz, a Polish aesthetics historian, once said, "Poetry expresses a certain state of mind." It can express great joy or utter bitterness. It can also describe a feeling of pleasure or surprise. Poetry is one of the oldest, most enjoyable forms of art that continues to live on everywhere around us.
